Something caught Merrik's ear as he made his way out of the clearing, and he faltered in his steps. Most of what transpired between the two was none of his business, nor did it particularly interest him, but one phrase made it through his willful ignorance-
Daesi, and Terrwyn, and Nia- he echoed silently to himself. -together.
Maybe it'd been the time away from his own kind that caused the exclusion to sting so much - after all, there was no reason that it should bother him. He'd not known these people long at all. It was more the sudden sense of aloneness that it brought him.
I want to get out of here, he thought to himself, return to the mountains, back to my clan, and never look back. This is not my place, and there's nothing here for me.
He sighed, briefly considering not returning to the tent for the night. But knowing the rest of them, they'd come looking and it'd be nothing short of awkward.
Furthermore, he had nothing on him but a pair of pants. Likely he'd catch a chill or get eaten by wolves if he tried to sleep out here.
With that in mind, he turned his steps back towards camp.

As Daesi walked Terrwyn back to the tent, he couldn't help but notice Nia waiting for him. Great
"I can explain...." he started.

"First I should apologize," Nia replied. "Perhaps I was just a bit harsh. But I didn't want her to run off on you. Nor did I want her to feel at all threatened. My time with her has made me think of her almost as a little sister. I'm sorry if I was rude." She waited, knowing he wanted to speak with her. Now she was feeling much less hostile toward him, realizing that their talk must have gone well.

Daesi breathed an audible sigh of relief.
"I'm sorry as well. I feel terrible for bringing her into this, knowing full well what I was to her. Trust me had it not been for her zeal to follow, I would have left her with my aunt in the city. Dragging her into my fight was the last thing I wanted to do."

As the bard reached the tent, he saw that discussions were still going on, and chose to hang back. No need to intrude, he reasoned, glancing away from the elves. His eyes found the older paladin, still sleeping and oblivious to all that had transpired.
I almost envy you, you big deaf bastard.

Terrwyn felt a warm bubling sensation when she heard Nia say little sister and she went to give her a hug.

Then she whirled on Daesi and slapped him "If you ever think of leaving me behind again dad, and i am calling you that so get used to it, you will regret it". Terrwyn ran into the tent before daaesi could speak and fell fast asleep on her bed.

On second thought, I can't take this.
Quiet as he could, the merchant prowled over to where Castus was sleeping and aimed a kick directly into his ribs. The paladin woke with a grunt, but Merrik was on him in an instant, hand clamped over his mouth.
"If anyone asks," he hissed almost silently, "tell them I went for a walk."
And with that, the merchant was off into the night again, leaving Castus behind to sort through his confusion and bruises.

Lyrania smiled as Terrwyn hugged her. She shook her head at Daesi's words. "She wanted to come with us. It's her right you know. Not that I'm saying you were wrong for trying to keep her out of it. But this fight is hers as well now and I think she is perfectly capable of fighting it," she responded softly. The elf looked around. "Merrik's not back yet... I hope he's okay."

"The bard said to tell you he's taking a walk," the paladin explained, wandering into the tent. "And good riddance if he's going to be attacking people while they sleep."
At that, he paused, noticing that everyone else - with the exception of Terrwyn - was awake.
"...did I miss something?"

Starts humming: "Don't you know you never split the party...."
After being slapped in the face by his daughter, Daesi just simply had to laugh at the poor hapless paladin's confusion.
"Too much happened. And I don't feel like explaining. I think all of us need sleep," he replied, taking up his customary position near his lordship's quarters. It was then that he picked up on something unnatural in the far distance that wasn't simply a roving band of catfolk. Shit, Merrik...
Merrik: you can now roll me a spot and listen check!

Merrik: You don't see anything because it is well past midnight and overcast. However you hear some unnatural creaking, shuffling, and grunting sounds off in the distance.

"I understand," Castus replied with a small nod before returning to his spot outside the tent.
Meanwhile, Merrik made his way through the forest. Being around the three of them had proven a bit awkward, and he only planned to get away for awhile and give them a chance to settle down.
That is, until he heard the sounds. He immediately stopped walking and frowned deeply, his thoughts warring between caution and curiousity.
In the end, curiousity won out. Keeping as quiet as he could without holding his breath, he crept towards the noises.
I wonder if they can resurrect me if I've been eaten...

Merrik: As you make your way closer to the source of the noises, you are nearly overcome by the powerful stench of something rotting. Creeping closer, the clouds in the sky move away from the moon and illuminated in the distance is a figure in long jet black robes, with silvery hair and wearing what appears to be a skull as a mask. Around them in a ritualistic circle, are several rotting corpses that appear to be moving sluggishly.
