This thread is an overview of the main Elven tribes that populate the world of 'The Gifted.'
Origins of The Quessir People
The elves of this world prefer to call themselves 'Quessir' (literally 'people' or 'of the people'). All though all Quessir share a common ancestral root, they have become fragmented into tribes over the centuries based on migration patterns to and from the Quessir homeland of Lateu’Suoress.
The Quessir trace themselves mythical back to the time when the Zodiac Court mingled on earth and subsequently gave rise to a race of humanoids that could trace direct ancestry back to the gods.
Feeling that their divine connections gave them stewardship over nature and thus made them superior the Quessir then sought to distance themselves from their 'cruder' brethren whose only connection to the divine was a god now gone renegade.
They then settled on a large remote island where a sacred spring was discovered to be a portal to the godly realm. The spring soon flooded into a lake, on the banks of which the Quessir built their first city.
A century or so later it is said the moon rose to the sky from this spot, and the god Lunniea Flora first appeared forever uniting the Quessir to their new god and the Moon. Lake Lothen was said to then be blessed as the source of all Quessir magic- a magic that nurtured and sustained the people giving them their ethereal beauty, arcane prowess, and long lives.
The Scourge
There are several debates through out history as to why the event known as The Scourge happened. Human scholars would say that the new human kingdom of Therfis feared the more advanced and godly Quessir, while mystics say that the Demon God Eerebus deliberately inflamed racial tension by spurring the drow to plague Therfis, giving the humans reason to strike back.
Despite interpretation, one fact is clear. At the start of the last millennium Therfis invaded Lateu’Suoress in retaliation for what they said was a plague of supernatural proportions.
Most of the great forests of the continent were laid bare during the war. And instead of regenerating over time, the land instead became two vast deserts, with only the small area around Lake Lothen remaining verdant. The population of the continent was decimated, and the Quessir that had settled in Therfis were driven back to the deserts, where they formed new societies or tribes in the wasteland.
