Oblivious to her distaste, Merrik seated himself once more. "Discussing all things under the heavens, I suspect," he responded, glancing at Daesi before downing the rest of his wine. The elf's interest in the magic had peaked the merchant's curiosity, for all he tried to hide it.
If he could find out about this curse...I might be on my way towards ridding myself of it! He debated, toying with the glass in his hands.
"Well...if you could help me set this mystery to rest, I should be grateful. I'm afraid that this has me ill at ease."

Lyrania stared at Merrik for a couple seconds. How could he possibly not have noticed the look she had (mostly unintentionally) given him? Did he just not care? Or was there something else that she just did not know. No matter. He was being friendly. So she would at least try to get around her issues. Especially if they were unfounded.
She poured a small amount of wine in her glass and sipped it happily. Quite oblivious to the fact that it wasn't even close to true elven wine.
As she sipped her wine, she glanced around again. Somehow it felt as if she were watched. But perhaps it was just a trick of her imagination. Even so she pulled her hood over her head, covering what would surely give her away to anyone looking for her.
Most likely it was just her mind playing tricks on her though.

Terrwyn woke up with a groan. shed been knocked unconscious with a poisonous dart in the catacombs, at the end of the mission. She blinked in confusion at where she was but than she remembered her that this was her room in Thala's house. Terrwyn lay on a soft cott her bruised body cushioned comfortably. She had even been changed out of her armor and into her shift. She blinked something was wrong with her right shoulder it felt to heavy and she couldn't move it at all.
A surge of panic went through Terrwyn, that she had been so careless to get herself injured when other depended on her. Terrwyn abruptly sat up her head spinning. Ouch! Not enough for a concussion but it still hurt.
Nia's bed Terrwyn saw was neatly made and yes empty of the wizard. "No! they left without me, oh Sophia No!", Terrwyn muttered to herself as she got up. she quickly found her lightest non paladin armor and put it on along with a splitskirt and leather tunic and boots. She grabbed her gear and quickly prayed to Sophia that she could send her a vision of where Daesi and Nia were. then making sure she had her staff, her journal, knife, and satchel of herbs she had with her.
As she was leaveing Thala's House Terrwyn had to lean heavily on the door lintal as a gust of wind came to her pushing her back and making her hair fly. The breath of Wind sent her a vision of a tavern..... and in that tavern she could see Nia staring coldly at a smiling stranger while Daesi contemplated a goblet of wine... Lastly she saw that above the taverns door a sign bearing the name Whispering Winds Tavern. Terrwyn prayed a thank you to Sophia for the vision and quickly left.

Terrwyn made her way out of the elven quarter and towards the market district where the tavern was. it was late evening and not many people were out. Except for a few food vendors and occasional pick pocket. Terrwyn bought and paid for fried dough sprinkled liberally with sugar and cinnamon and and orange because her stomach was growling. A small child looked at her hopefully, his pitiful frame emaciated with hunger and his eyes deep and sunken. Terrwyn gave him a big hunk of dough and some of her orange and he ran off with a nod of thanks. Terrwyn watched him go; as she walked by the ally he had disappeared into she saw him with a girl, they were both eagerly devouring the unexpected meal. Terrwyn felt a pang of sympathy for them but didn't let show as she walked past them. None looked at the orphan usually they were thought as street rats, city scum that is to lowly to think about. Terrwyn didn't think like. Once that was her scrounging in piles of refuse and garbage for food scraps, she knew what it was like to be a street orphan, but she'd survived, hopefully these children would too. Terrwyn sent a prayr to Sophia to watch over the street children and hurried on before she was mugged or worse rapped in the dark ally.
Terrwyn paused just before entering the tavern, she shookher head then pushed the door open.

"I like puzzles and mysteries," Daesi replied with a grin. He was obviously hitting his stride here. "Of course I need as many details as you could give me. Of course this isn't the place. Maybe we could meet in my study perhaps?"
He glanced briefly at his female companion, noting her look of unease. Not one to leave a lady feeling down, he gently placed his arm around her shoulders.
"Everything all right dear?" he asked softly.
It was then he noticed Terrwyn's entrance. Damn here comes trouble he thought.

"Details..." Merrik hesitated, disliking the taste of the word. He wasn't entirely willing to divulge the truth to a stranger, especially one who claimed to trade in information. Much less did he like the thought of going to a place he was unfamiliar with without any sort of backup.
Then again, if this could help him...
"I will see what I can do," he finally responded stiffly, glancing down into his emptied glass as the two elves conversed.
After a time, he saw Daesi's eyes lift towards the doors with recognition, and Merrik turned to see what he was looking at. Seeing a lightly-armored female, the merchant leaned towards the table and kept his voice low, "A friend if yours, I hope?"

"Yes I do know her as well, weather or not it is of benefit I have yet to decide. She is pure of heart and frustratingly so." he said laughing. Daesi then saw the look of apprehension in Merrik's face. He'd obviously struck some kind of nerve in the others mind. He'd have to find some way to reassure him and fast. "I can assure you that my interest here is purely of a love of the search. While I broker in information, I do so to assist my fellow Quessir, as our kind is looked on as the scum of the earth. Magic is banned in this city and as a mage I would never betray one's secrets to a state so intent to stamp out my race's lifeblood regardless of the price offered."
He of course said that for Nia's benefit as well. The mage had had her own run-in with the law.

The merchant glanced again at the newcomer as he weighed the elf's words in his mind. He tapped his nails against the glass, uncertain. He had always prided himself on being a good judge of character, and his gut told him that the man spoke truly, but with his powers dampened as they were lately, he feared making a mistake.
This, however, was not a problem he would solve on his own. And who knew how long he'd have? This body he found himself trapped in was vulnerable, and even assuming he managed to avoid disaster, who could say if he'd even experience the life span that was due to him? Maybe he could only count on a mortals years.
A thought that made him long for another drink.
Finally, he forced himself to nod. "Fine; I apologize for my doubt, Daesi, but I believe you will understand my reasons in time. I accept, and will offer you what little I know of this mystery."

As Terrwyn opened the tavern door her nose was greeted by the smell of several unwashed bodies and spilt ale. The source came from the table where men were hunched over in sleepy, drunken stupor. With experienced eyes and pair of small pointy ears- a trait from her elven father which made listening in on conversations usuful on more than one occasion- she took in groups of different people. Well to do merchants discussing trade over cheap elven wine, some rich travelers eating a late dinner, and the common tavern sights like scantily clad woman dancing on the floor, singing, and talking with customers. She let out a weary sigh seeing some men arguing over a chess board fingering their belt knives. She wasn't on duty tonight. She hadn't been for a long time.
At last her gaze swept to a table in the back where she spied Nia staring cold eyed on a very unexpected man. Daesi and the man were engaged in a urgent discussion, while wine goblets and bread, cheese and meat platter were in the middle of the table. Terrwyn sighed happily looking at the food and her two companions, than she grimaced, her break was over and the adventure had started again.
Terrwyn walked to the table quietly than leaning over she grabbed both Daesi and Nia's shoulder and spoke in a pleasant voice "A Good eve to you, thought you would leave me at home didn't yeh? well I'm back and yeh ain't leaving me behind on this adventure, i think you'd miss your meat sheild and healer. And who is your companion?", Terrwyn asked reaching over and pulling up a chair. The strange man had a ancient aura radiating from him Terrwyn decided as she tore into the platter and filled a goblet with wine from the decanter. Her shoulder twinged as she moved it but she ignored it.

"No I was not intending on leaving you out my dear," Daesi replied to the latest arrival. "You yourself seemed quite intent on sleeping off your injury and who am I to disrupt a maid's beauty rest?"
Charm was a card he played well. He wasn't about to let his annoyance at his boisterous companion show, especially in front of company.
"Terrwyn, this is Merrik. Merrik- Terrwyn a member of the Lady Knights of Sophia one of the finest knightly orders in the city. She is also an expert in herbal medicine."

Rather taken aback by the sudden greeting, Merrik was grateful for Daesi's intervention giving him a chance to reorganize his thoughts. Putting darker subjects out of his mind, he rose to his feet with a smile and offered a hand.
"Merrik, yes, as Daesi says. A humble traveling merchant. Very nice to make your acquaintance," he spoke easily, falling back into a more companionable demeanor.
"Are we expecting any others? I fear I've found myself the odd man out, here, and pray that my continued presence is not intrusive."

"No sir, I am the only other one. Thank you for letting me sleep in by the way Daesi dear. And you to Nia. I was wondering what you three were discussing when i came in but my stomache rudely interrupted me. Is there any time tpo eat dinner or are we immediately commencing business. I guess i need to build up my energy and strength again.", said Terrwyn ignoring the stunned expressions of her companions.
She was really hungry. Also she was craving a pot of tea preferably lavender and sacred basil and she was even willing to share. Or maybe some cider nicely spiced of course. Her shoulder was starting to twinge terribly and Terrwyn figured it was time for a new poultice of comfrey, burduct root, and ginger. and maybe some new bandages.
"what are you reading Daesi", Terrwyn asked reaching for his book. "ugh its in elven, i can only just read it, i guess i need to practice", she said returning the book to Daesi.
Her stomach growled again. "How long have i been out", she added looking Daesi in the eye with her don't you dare lie to me look. It wasn't very intimidating because as she was doing it her stomach growled again. How many times is it now, she thought. Terrwyn groaned.

Nia startled slightly when Terrwyn looked in. For a couple seconds she didn't even recognize the half-elf, thinking her just another knight. She looked away, not caring much. Again, she jumped when Daesi hooked his arm around her. The elf frowned at the universal question asked when one did not look the best.
"Do I look okay to you," she asked irritably, regretting the question the moment it escaped her lips. 'Sorry, that was rude. No I'm having issues keeping past and present separated right now."
It was in fact the truth. Her paranoia was due to feeling as if she was still running from her last problem. As if she were still in that moment. An odd feeling to be sure. She still hadn't quite shook it away for the moment.
It was then that she noticed, and recognized the paladin. "Hello, feeling better?"
She laughed when Terrwyn took the book. "I wouldn't do that if I were you..."

Merrik sat back, listening to the group's chatter with half an ear and eyeing his empty glass ruefully. This was all considerably more than he'd expected to encounter when he came to the tavern, but it was better than drinking alone. Safer, too.
He still hadn't been quite able to shake his feelings of unease since that night.
"So, how is the food in this place?"
