The following are some general notes about the geography, population, and politics of the realm broken down by region.
The Lay of the Land-
Kingdom of Therfis:
For the most part Therfis is a prosperous kingdom. As the most ‘advanced’ society around Therfis enjoys much wealth.
Therfis has been ruled for centuries by a stable monarchy centered in the namesake capital of the kingdom. The capital is the largest city of all the surrounding lands and is the center of Therfian culture. Therfians are for the most part a society that favors education as a path towards higher civilization, and there is a large university dedicated to the goddess Sophia (Goddess of Civilization) at the heart of the capital. The Therfian nobility and a large prosperous merchant and business class support the university.
Therfians are known world wide for the leaps they have made when it comes to invention and science as well as medicine. Intricate clockwork machines are a common sight in a city known for its technology.
Magic is of course a huge taboo and the practice is mainly left to wealthy tinkerers who have the money and the power to keep such ‘gifts’ private.
However even Therfis has it’s seedier side. Along with it’s wealth there is also a large disenfranchised lower class. Decrepit slums ring the large city, although the populace has taken strides to make sure these remain hidden to outsiders. In populations that have emigrated to Therfis from the outlaying lands there have been reports of ‘the gift’ running rampet but such magical happenings are swept under the rug as soon as they occur. There is also a large criminal element present: street gangs, organized crime rackets, and the like. Therfis also has a long history of slavery.
Outside the city most of Therfis is a rolling plain of rich farmland with scattered woodlands. The climate is temperate with cold wet winters and warm dry summers. The lands are broken into smaller feudal parcels which are over seen by lords loyal to the Therfian king and sustained through farming and limited trading between fiefs.
