Things as They Stand…
…While the people of Therfis continue as they have for years, an air of invisible tension has blanketed the city for a few months. Reports have returned from the far edges of the kingdom speaking of a strange array of creatures the likes that haven’t been seen for millennia. In remote villages the dead are walking again, and the citizens are being spirited away by dark skinned people who shun the light of day. This could only mean one thing; an ancient war fought by the gods to control humanity has been rekindled. And right away Therfians are pointing their fingers at ‘The Gifted.’
The Therfians are a supersticous people, even centuries after the ‘Wars of the Darkness.’ Seeing the practice of the arcane arts as where this whole situation began- magic is now a strict taboo and those who practice their craft are persecuted with the full extent of the law. Those with ‘The Gift’ as magic is called by its users have been living in fear of being dragged off. And if any one race has born the brunt of the magic-phobic atmosphere it is the Quessir people- better known as the elves.
In the many years of peace following the unrest, the Therfians have become a technologically advanced people. Industry and science have taken over the roles traditionally taken by magic. The elves in comparison are backwards. Magic is their lifeblood. It sustains and nurtures their idyllic nature based lives. The elven god Lunniea is the source of this magic power.
To the Therfians Lunniea is a dangerous god one who governs life and death and protects the elven people, magically extending their lives and giving them immense power.- one that that threatens the Therfians.
Or does it?
The elves whose god stands accused see the situation differently. Their ancestral land of Lateu’Suoress has been withering away since the end of that ancient conflict. Magic is leaving their lands, turning what were once lush forests into barren desert. The power of the proud Quessir is waning. It seems that Lunniea is dying.
